North Somerset SSP Year 7/8 Sportshall Finals
14 teams arrived at St Katherines Secondary School, having qualified from North and South qualifying events, to compete in the Level 2 NSSSP Secondary Sportshall Finals. Sportshall athletics rarely fails to generate excitement amongst competitors and spectators. This event did not disappoint with some outstanding individual and team performances contributing to a memorable schools competition. After nearly two hours of competition, Backwell's consistently strong teams emerged as deserved winners in all four competitions, although by only the finest of margins in a fabulous year 8 Girls competition, with a mere 2 points separating the two talented teams of Backwell and Gordano. Both teams will have the opportunity to compete again at the Level 3 Winter Games, along with the top two teams in all other categories. Congratulations to all competitors!
The final results from yesterdays year 7/8 Sportshall Finals are:
Year 7 Boys: Backwell 124, Priory 100, Broadoak 99
Year 7 Girls: Backwell 110, Priory 94, Gordano 93, Broadoak 87
Year 8 Boys: Backwell 122, Sidcot 102, Broadoak 96
Year 8 Girls: Backwell 109, Gordano 107, Priory 101, Sidcot 77
Thanks to Dave Turner for leading the event and Becky Wilshere for all her efforts in ensuring we had results available so promptly after the last race finished. The top two teams in each category have qualified for the Level 3 County Finals, which take place on Monday 30th January, as part of the Winter School Games.
