YEAR 9 TREK
Tuesday of this week saw another of our fine traditions – the Year 9 Trek. Challenging 250+ 14 year olds to walk 9 miles across the Mendips might sound doomed to failure but – far from it – it was a huge success. The weather was sublime and the students, with their Sixth Form guides, navigated their courses more or less as hoped and planned. Many students do think they can read a map that is actually IN their bags but very few really got lost. All arrived back safely and probably in record time. Whatever they told you at home, all the students I spoke to on the Trek and afterwards said they’d had a really good time and were proud of what they had achieved. Many thanks to the small army of staff and to the students of current Year 12 who made this special event possible and … well, special. However, and for the final time after probably between 40 and 50 Treks over the years, a very special thanks to Trevor Morgan who planned and oversaw the Trek once more.
ATHLETICS SUCCESS
Megan Coe (Year 10) represented Avon in the South West Athletics Championships last weekend, throwing the javelin. She threw a new personal best of 31.98m and came second place overall. Another fantastic achievement for Megan who may well be selected to represent the South West at the English Schools Championships, well done!
